Security to be tightened in Darjeeling before R-Day
Darjeeling, Jan 19 (UNI) West Bengal Police will beef up security arrangement for the Republic day in Darjeeling district.
Superintendent of Police, Darjeeling, Rajesh Subarno told UNI that the whole district would be brought under a security blanket.
''Though there is no specific information about any terror strike in this area, police would be conscious about the movement of extremist groups,'' Mr. Subarno said.
He said the police was keeping a watch on hotels and guest houses. ''We are keeping contact with the Border Security Force(BSF) and Sasastra Seema Bal(SSB),'' he said.
He added that the district shares a 100 km border with Nepal and 30 km with Bangladesh. These areas had been declared as 'most sensitive'.
The security arrangement had been beefed up in Siliguri and adjoining areas too with surprise checks being carried out, the SP said. All police stations of the district had been alerted and one training programme was conducted about the new procedures of investigation, he added.
