Rupee opens flat at 44.33/34 against per US dollar

Mumbai, Jan 19 (UNI) The Rupee today opened steady at 44.33/34 against per US dollar from it last close on moderate buying support of dollar by foreign banks, dealers said.

The Indian Rupee was little changed on Friday, after the yen held near a four-year low against the dollar, and investors were suspicious of central bank intervention.

The partially convertible Rupee was at 44.33/34 against the dollar, compared with the previous session's close of 44.33/34 when it weakened on suspected central bank intervention.

The dollar held firm against the yen after the Bank of Japan left interest rates unchanged at the end of a two-day policy meeting on Thursday.

India's central bank often intervenes to protect export competitiveness and curb volatility in the rupee. It intervened heavily in November to pull the rupee down from an eight-month high, dealers added.
