Musharraf calls Ahmadinejad

Islamabad, Jan 19 (UNI) Pakistan's President General Musharraf spoke to his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on telephone today and informed him about his forthcoming visit to Saudi Arabia , Egypt , Syria and Jordan for consultations on the West Asian crisis .

"The President shared his deep concern over the deteriorating situation in the West Asia, in particular Palestine , and the need for fresh efforts to push for a just settlement of the Palestinian issue," foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam said here this evening.

President Musharraf also mentioned the urgency of bringing harmony within the Islamic world.

"President Ahmadinejad thanked Mr Musharraf for sharing his views and welcomed his initiative for addressing the Palestinian issue and the situation in the West Asia," Ms Aslam said.

She added that the Iranian President also supported efforts by his Pakstani counterpart.

The two leaders agreed to keep in touch with each other.
