Media should not cross limits: Nayar
Visakhapatnam, Jan 19: Eminent and veteran Journalist Kuldip Nayar today warned the media it could face adverse consequences if it functioned in favour of the establishment and capitalists.
Addressing the Vizag Journalists Forum (VJF) here, he said the performance of the Press Council of India (PCI) has not been ''satisfactory,'' despite the print media growing in the world.
Calling on the judiciary and the media should work independently, he claimed that both were ''tilting'' towards the establishment.
This would only lead to disintegration of the nation, he cautioned.
He said social justice would be achieved through peaceful means and efforts should be made to realise Mahatma Gandhi's dream of providing minimum standard of living to every citizen in the country.
Mr Nayar also opined that fundamentalism was taking roots in the country. Religion was a private affair and one should not mix it with politics, he added.
