Mumbai, Jan 19 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today allowed Manish Khatau, son of industrialist Mahendra Khatau, to receive his passport from the police for the purpose of renewing his visa for the UK.

Manish Khatau, who is embroiled in a reckless driving case in which a police constable was grievously hurt on August 14 last year, had to surrender his passport to the police.

The court today directed the investigating officer to release the passport to Manish Khatau.

The court, however, directed Manish to submit an undertaking that he would not leave the country after his visa, which expires in five days, is renewed.

Advocates Girish Kulkarni and Amit Desai, representing Manish Khatau, told the court that their 21-year-old client was ready to pay adequate compensation to the accident victim as directed by the court.

Manish has been charged with causing grievous hurt to police constable Jitendra Rokde who had signaled him to slow down during a ''nakabandi'' on the eve of Independence Day near Police Gymkhana at Marine Drive. However, he still rammed his Ford Icon into the barricades in front of the Gymkhana and one of the barricades hit Rokde on the forehead, injuring him seriously.
