Manipur police modernised, assures extra security cover

Imphal, Jan 19 (UNI) Manipur Deputy General of Police A K Parashar today said security arrangements in the state will be strengthened soon.

Talking to newspersons here, the DGP said security has been beefed up at several parts of the state in view of the forthcoming Assembly elections in February.

'' All those candidates who are facing threats will be provided foolproof security,'' Mr Parashar added.

He said the state police was facing shortage of staff since long but with the recruitment of 1700 new police personnel recently and modernisation of the department, the police would be able to combat the anti-social activites.

He said a highway protection force had also been formed to check the illegal activities and frequent extortions occurring on the highways.

'' The increase in traffic volume will be channelised through proper traffic arrangement and a senior police officer will lead the task,'' he said.
