Kalam exhorted NRIs to strive for prosperous Bihar

Patna, Jan 19 (UNI) Suggesting several measures to revive Bihar, President A P J Abdul Kalam today exhorted the NRIs and others to strive for properity of the state and administered the pledge to them of making its future 'glorious''.

During his fourth visit of the state, Dr Kalam chose to speak a few lines in Hindi. Addressing the intellectuals gathering, Dr Kalam initiated his deliberations with 'Namaskar'.

He said, ''Aap logon se ek bar phir milkar bahut khushi ho rahi hai.'' He ended his brief Hindi speech by greeting the mammoth gathering saying ''Aap sab ko naye varsh ki shubhkamna deta hoon.'' While inaugurating the global meet for a resurgent Bihar to explore opportunities and partnerships for the development of the state, he said it was a pleasant moment as several people have come from across the country and abroad with open mind to participate in building a resurgent Bihar in partnership with the people of the state.

He said the contributions of those who are helping in making a 'happy Bihar and new Bihar' would be remembered forever as the mission to make aspirations and dreams of the people of the state a reality will definitely come true.

Mr Kalam outlined the glorious past of Bihar and in due course he referred to the Old Nalanda University, where people from 90 countries did their research work and suggested to make this state again a hub of knowledge.

He quoted the study report of Dr Paul H Appleby of the University of California, a US-based public administration scholar on administration of Indian States submitted to the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1952, in which it had been mentioned that Bihar was the best administrated state in the country at that time.

He said the present Nitish Kumar government had the wonderful opportunity to repeat the history with ''innovative'' participation.
