Five poachers arrested, carcasses of musk deer seized

Jammu, Jan 19 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir forest department officials have nabbed five poachers and seized the carcasses of four musk deer from Pir Panjal in Poonch distrit of Jammu, official sources said here today.

According to the sources, a team of forest department raided Barhamghalla area in Mandi forests where poachers were camping.

Smugglers used to hunt down endangered animals and trade their skins and organs across the state.

The sources said the team arrested five poachers while four others escaped.

''Four cascasses of deer were seized from the camp. Some portion was eaten up by the poachers, while Musk (Kasturi) was removed from all the animals,'' sources said The poachers were identified as Syed Akbar, Mir Hussain and his son Muneer Hussain, Abdul Majid and Mohd Shabir.
