Cold wave continues in UP

Lucknow, Jan 19 (UNI) Cold wave conditions sweeping Uttar Pradesh for the last couple of days continued in the state.

According to weatherman, in the absence of humidity, the dry weather would continue in UP.

So far, cold has claimed 120 lives in UP.

Mercury plummeted at night in Allahabad, Faizabad, Varanasi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra, Sultanpur and Gorakhpur districts.

The tent city of Prayag -- at 5.6 degrees Celsius -- 4 degrees below normal -- was the coldest place in UP.

The temple town Varanasi recorded 8.0 degrees C, which was 2 degrees below normal. Sultanpur recorded 6.4 degrees C.

However, mercury rose slightly in Jhansi.

A report from Sangam, Allahabad said dry icy winds lashed the state, making people shiver even during the day despite bright sunshine.

Meanwhile, fog continued to disturb train schedules. 4723/4724 Kalindi Express, 5003/5004 Chauri Chaura Express and Farukhabad Passenger have been suspended till January 31.

According to met, mornings would continue to be hazy.
