BPL families not to pay fee under RTI, says CIC
Shimla, Jan 19 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) P S Rana said people below poverty line (BPL) have been exempted from depositing fee for any information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Information to all BPL families would be given free of cost within the stipulated period of 30 days, he said at a meeting with all the Public Information Officers (PIOs) of the HP Secretariat, directorates, boards and corporations yesterday.
Mr Rana said while those in the general category have to deposit Rs 10 with their application, below poverty line (BPL) people will be provided the service free of cost.
He also called upon the PIOs to dispose of all applications under the RTI Act in a time-bound manner.
The PIOs working in the headquarters should remain in touch with those in the field to make the implementation of the Act more effective, he said.
All applications received for information from people shall be disposed of in a timebound manner as specified in the RTI Act, 2005, he added.
