26 RR gets Citation Award for excellent operation

Jammu, Jan 19 (UNI) The 26 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army, undertaking anti-insurgency operations Bhaderwah region in militancy-infested Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir, was received Citation Award from Army Chief General JJ Singh for its splendid performance.

The 26 RR (KUMAON) won the Citation Award for the second time for its excellent work to fight against militancy as well as restoring the peace in the region.

On Army day, Gen Singh presented the unit citation to 26 RR (KUMAON) which comes under 9 Sec (DELTA FORCE) for its splendid performance in district Doda (J&K). The award was received by the unit's CO Col R K Singh, and subadar major Partab Singh.

''In its present tenure, the battalion has tken various measures to bring about normalcy in Doda -- an erstwhile hot bed of militancy and effectively marginalized terrorism in the area of responsibility by neutralising the terrorist leadership and its cadres and made inroads into winning the hearts and minds of people by improving the socio-economic condition of the region,'' Col Singh said.

''The mass surrenders in the unit's area responsibility has totally dwindled the support base of the terrorist among the villagers,'' he said.
