Upa Lok Ayukta orders inquiry against VIMS hospital
Bangalore, Jan 18 (UNI) Finding irregularities in the services of the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Bellary, Karnataka Upa Lok Ayukta Mr Justice Patri Basavanagouda has ordered an inquiry into the affairs of the hospital and constituted a committee, headed by Dr C S Hanumanthappa, to suggest remedial measures.
Mr Justice Basavanagouda said in a release here today that the duty doctor Vijay Shankar was not present at the emergency care unit when himself and Lok Ayukta Mr Justice Santhosh Hegde took two victims of road accident to the hospital for treatment. The doctor then misled them, stating that he had gone to see another patient at the ICU, which proved false upon inquiry.
Shocked at the state of affairs in the hospital, the Upa Lok Ayukta had ordered initiation of action against Dr Vijay Shankar.
Dr Hanumanthappa, retired Medical Superintendent, was also a member of the Committee constituted by the Karnataka High Court to suggest improvements in the running of Government-run and autonomous hospitals.
