Traders demand early notification of 2021 Master Plan

New Delhi, Jan 18 (UNI) Traders in the capital today stressed the need for early notification of the 2021 Master Plan, saying it would help in addressing the sealing problem.

At a meeting in the capital, the traders also said the failure to frame a timely Zonal Plan was the crux of the present problem being faced by them due to sealing and demanded that MPD-2021 should be drafted in a way which emphasised the need of Zonal Plans.

Speaking at the meeting, trade leaders said that five elements namely Man, Nature, structures, network and society combined with physical and finance components formed the basis of a sound Master Plan.

''Unfortunately, the proposed MPD 2021 does not have any mention of financial management which is one of its major drawbacks,'' they said.

The traders said that keeping the present scenario in mind, parking management was a fundamental requirement and if it was addressed, most of their problems would be solved.

The traders stressed the need of framing a Local Area Plan of each road. The re-development scheme should be a second priority.

The trade leaders said the size of the Delhi metropolis required formation of a Metropolitan Planning Commission which should be empowered to implement the Master Plan and frame and implement 17 Zonal Plans and 250 Local Area Plans, if the issues were to be addressed in an effective manner.

They opined that all plans must be made available on the website and people should have free access to it.

They said that the policy of amalgamation should be allowed in MPD 2021 and all establishments which were likely to be displaced, should be given alternate space for rehabilitation. An aerial map of Delhi must be drawn and on the basis of available space, the Government should develop commercial infrastructure in Delhi, they added.

They described as ''baseless'' the categorisation of areas into A, B, C, D, E, F and G.
