Snowfall in high altitude areas of HP

Shimla, Jan 18 (UNI) The high altitude areas in the tribal districts of Himachal Pradesh have been receiving intermittent snowfall since morning with overcast conditions in mid and lower hills of the state.

All high altitude places in Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, and Kullu districts of the state were experiencing snowfall since morning intensifying coldwave in the state.

The Met office said mild to moderate snowfall was reported from Pangi, Lahual, Spiti and Pin valleys and other higher mountain peaks and areas.

Reports of fresh spell of snowfall from 13,050 foot-high Rohtang Pass, the gateway to Lahaul Spiti district, were also received, disrupting continuing dry weather spell over a month.

However, snow clouds hovered over the lower areas of the tribal districts with no report of rain or snow uptill 1730 hrs, the Met office and official sources said.

Thick layer of clouds also covered the sky over lower and mid hills of the state since this morning, intensfying coldwave conditions in the entire state.

Residents of Shimla and other adjoining areas woke up to overcast conditions as thick cloud covered the sky and registered a marginal increase in the minimum temperature, which stood at three degrees Celsius.

The Met office said the day temperature also rose to 12 degrees as compared to 8.8 degrees, while night temperatures at Sundernagar and Bhuntar rose to 0.5 and 0.4 degrees Celsius respectively and day temperature fell to 14.3 degrees and 13.1 degrees Celsius respectively.

It also predicted rain or snowfall at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hours.
