Six candidates file nominations in Punjab
Chandigarh, Jan 18 (UNI) As many as six candidates submitted their papers for the February 13 Assembly elections in Punjab on the opening day of filing nominations today.
Two nominations were filed from Patiala constituency and one each from different assembly segments in Nawashahar, SAS Nagar, Ferozepur and Muktsar districts. No prominent candidate submitted papers today.
The filing of nominations commenced with the issuance of notification for the elections by the Election Commission (EC) today.
The by-election to the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat is also being held on February 13 as the BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu vacated it after his conviction in a 19-year-old road rage murder case by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on December 6.
The last date for filing of nominations is January 25 and scrutiny will be held on January 27. Ths last date of withdrawal of candidatures is January 29. Polling will be held on February 13 from 0800 hours to 1700 hours.
The counting of votes for both assembly and Amritsar Lok Sabha polls would take place on February 27.
The election process will be completed before March two.
