Renuka holds UP Govt responsible for Nithari killings
Hyderabad, Jan 18 (UNI) Holding the Mulayam Singh Government in Uttar Pradesh squarely responsible for the Nithari killings, Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhary today said the ''Centre cannot remain a mute spectator''.
The Centre would set up trauma centres to take care of women in distress and launch Integrated Girl Child Protection Scheme, Ms Chowdhary, who was here in connection with the Fourth National Conference of the All India Anganwadi Workers Federation, told reporters.
More than 40 human skulls, skeletal remains and fragments of clothes, all belonging to victims, had been recovered from Nithari village, near Noida, she pointed out, adding it was a ''total failure'' on the part of the district administration and police. ''This is not an end. More and more skeletal remains are being recovered'', she lamented.
Expressing shock over the police indifference to complaints from the parents of missing children, she said it was unbecoming on the part of the Noida police to say that these minor children had run away with their lovers.
''It is unfortunate that the Uttar Praadesh police are behaving in an irresponsible manner and turning a blind eye to sexual abuse and brutal murder of children and women''.
