Rawat rejects BJP charge of corruption against Govt
New Delhi, Jan 18 (UNI) Assailing the BJP for raising an imaginary issue'' of corruption in the run up-to the Assembly elections in Uttarakhand, the Congress today challenged the party to reveal the name of at least one Minister in the N D Tiwari government facing such charge.
The BJP is raising a bogey of corruption and misuse of office by the Govenment, but has no moral guts to reveal to the people even one name of a Minister or leader who is allegedly corrupt, uttarakhand Congress President Harish Rawat told UNI here.
''The fact of the matter was that the BJP had no issue at all to raise and therefore it was raising an imaginary one he added.
Mr Rawat, who is a claimant to the Chief Minster's post, said if there was the slightest substance in the BJP charge of corruption against the Government, then why did they kept mum all through the five years the Congress Government was in power.
Rejecting outright the charge of corruption against the Government, he said that the Tiwari Government had appointed a Lokayukt within six months after coming to power to probe the charge of corruption while the party too at its level, had set up a committee to enforce morality.
''But the BJP neither broght up any case of corruption before the Lokayukt nor did it maeke public any name of corrupt minister or leader," Mr Rawat said adding that there was no case of corruption available as an issue at all.
Therefore corruption is no issue before the people in the Assembly elections," he added.
On the other hand he blamed BJP leaders for taking the benefit of using beacon light and availing other benefits BJP MLAs and leaders had applied for financial help from the Chief Minster's Relief Fund got projects sanctioned in their favour and secured other benefits, '' he claimed.
