Railways success story continues in New Year
New Delhi, Jan 18 (UNI) Sustaining its growth momentum, the Railways earned Rs 1726.30 crore during January 1-10 as compared to Rs 1489.65 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 15.89 per cent.
The total goods earnings went up from Rs 1040.12 crore to Rs 1207.72 crore during the period, showing an increase of 16.11 per cent.
The passenger revenue earnings were pegged at Rs. 460.69 crore as compared to Rs. 402.93 crore during the same period last year, by of 14.33 per cent.
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 39.56 crore as compared to Rs 30.92 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 27.94 per cent.
The total sundry earnings went up from Rs. 15.68 crore during 1-10 January last year to Rs. 18.33 crore during the corresponding period this year, 2007, showing an increase of 16.90 per cent.
The approximate number of passengers booked during the period were 183.55 million while the figure stood at 169.74 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 8.14 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked were 109.37 million and 74.18 million compared to 103.09 million and 66.65 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 6.09 per cent and 11.30 per cent respectively.
