No nomination in Jalandhar; election process for Feb 13 poll begins

Jalandhar, Jan 18 (UNI) Not a single nomination was filed in the 10 assembly segments of Jalandhar district on the opening day today even as process for the February 13 assembly polls began with issuance of the election notification.

An Election office spokesman said that the first day drew a blank in the 10 constituencies in the district. The last date for filing nominations is January 25, and withdrawals can be made by January 29, he said.

Several prominent leaders including state Ministers Chaudhary Jagjit Singh (Kartarpur), Avtar Henry (Jalandhar North), Mohinder Singh Kaypee (Jalandhar South), Amarjit Singh Samra (Nakodar) and Ms Gurkanwal Kaur (Jalandhar Cantt) are expected to seek re-election from the district.
