Lawyers ask for inquiry into judges' row
Ahmedabad, Jan 18 (UNI) The Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association today urged to convene a special general meeting to consider resolutions, asking for an inquiry into the clash between two senior judges of the Court last week.
Last Thursday, Justice B J Shethna had allegedly roughed up his brother judge Justice P B Majmudar, when the two had met during their customary morning walk in the Judge's Bungalow area of the city.
Over 115 advocates, in a representation to the Association president, said in view of the controversy, public confidence in the administration of justice should not be shaken, therefore an inquiry must be conducted by the Supreme Court and the Centre so that the real truth came out.
Referring to media reports that mentioned that the row could be a fallout of a April 2006 order of Justice Shethna that indicted Justice Majmudar's son, the advocates said the State Bar Councils should collect all relevant details about the judges and their relatives practising in the same Courts, and send them to the Bar Council of India.
