L M Thapar cremated
New Delhi, Jan 18 (UNI) Paper industry baron and founder of BILT Lalit Mohan Thapar, who died in a city hospital late last night, was cremated here today.
Mr Thapar, 76, died of cardiac arrest at Escorts Hospital after a protracted illness. He was cremated at the Lodhi Road Crematorium with a host of dignitaries and industrialists paying their last repects.
Born in 1930, he did his schooling from Doon School and engineering degree from University of Southern California (US). He was unmarried.
Mr L M Thapar's nephew, Gautam, would succeed his as Chairman of Ballarpur Industries Ltd.
Mr Thapar had undertook many philanthropic activities particularly in the field of higher education and other areas of industry.
He was also a connoisseur of classical music and encouraged young talent.
Various trade bodies, including Assocham of which he a past President, expressed grief over Mr Thapar's demise.
