Kidnapped boy rescued by alert people

Gurdaspur, Jan 18 (UNI) An 8-year-old boy, kidnapped on way to school in the town this morning, was recovered on the outskirts a few hours later, spotted by some alert civilians.

After the police intensified patrol on the main link roads and alerted people about the abduction by criminals in a white maruti car, some people noticed the vehicle and rushed towards it in a large group.

This apparently made the kidnappers nervous and they fled away leaving the car with the child behind.

The crowd handed over the child to nearby police post and the boy was identified as Sahil, a student of Adarsh Model School, who was kidnapped on College Road, SSP Kanwar Vijay Pratap said.

The SSP said that the boys parents had received a telephone call demanding a ransom of Rs one lakh. The police were making all out efforts to trace the absconding abductors.
