JD(S) workers taken into custody
Mysore, Jan 18 (UNI) Police took into custody about 40 Janata Dal (Secular) activists who attempted to disrupt a function attended by former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Town Hall here today.
The activists, led by JD(S) leader Bannur Kumar, came in a procession from a temple near Mysore Palace and staged a dharna in front of Town Hall, shouting slogans against Mr Siddaramaiah and the Congress for taking credit for the schemes announced by the JD(S)-BJP Government.
They also protested against the organisers for not inviting district incharge Minister D T Jayakumar for the function, where farm equipment were distributed to farmers of Chamundeswari Assembly constituency under various Government schemes.
The Congress workers also staged a counter protest, leading to tension at the venue for some time. Police intervened and took the JD(S) activists into custody to avert a possible clash. However, they were all later released.
