Fifty missing as boat capsizes in river Krishna
Kurnool, Jan 18 (UNI) About 50 persons went missing when an overloaded boat capsized in the Krishna river in Andhra Pradesh.
According to police, the victims hailing from Murvakonda village were going to attend a religious festival in Mahabubnagar district when the accident occured at Manchala Katta village.
Sixty persons were in boat which was had the capacity to carry only 30, police added.
Some villagers swam to the site and rescued ten persons. Five persons were discharged after first aid, while five others were admitted in the Kollapur Hospital in Mahabubnagar district.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Shaw Nawaz Khasim said search operations were on for the missing persons.
Circle Inspector Santosh Kiran was supervising the rescue operations. Revenue and police officials rushed to the spot.
Worried relatives of the victims thronged the banks of the river.
