CPI(M) releases list of six assembly candidates
Dehradun, Jan 18 (UNI) The CPI(M)'s Uttarakhand unit today released the list of its candidates for Assembly election, slated to be held on February 21, in the state.
The list include Master Sher Singh from Sahaspur constituency, Gangadhar Nautiyal (Pratapnagar), Gangadhar Nautiyal (Kedarnath), Virendra Mingwal (Karnprayag), Sunil Haldar (Pantnagar-Gadarpur) and Bhagwan Singh Rana (Tehri).
Releasing the list in a press conference here, party's State Secretary Vijay Rawat said that the State Committee has decided to support Communist Party of India (CPI) in three constituencies -- Gangotri, Rudraprayag and Nandprayag -- and support Uttarakhand Kranti Dal in 10 constituencies -- Kanalichhina, Nainital, Dwarahaat, Pithoragarh, Khatima, Lohaghat, Didihaat, Ranikhet in Kumaon region and Devprayag and Yamunotri constituencies in Garhwal region.
''Instead of fielding too many candidates, the party has decided to concentrate on its strong holds only,'' he said, adding that it was further envisaging support from other democratic and progressive parties in the state. He maintained that his party would field its candidates on agendas based on the problems related to the common man such as land, water, forest, and educated unemployment.
CPI(M) had contested in five constituencies in the last Assembly election but had failed to win any seat. Sher Singh is the only candidate the party has repeated for the second time.
