CPI (M) launches Tamil daily, to focus on people's issues
Chennai, Jan 18 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today launched a Tamil daily 'Janasakthi' which would focus on people's issues.
CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan released the first copy of the newspaper, which was received by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at a function here.
CPI National Secretary D Raja, TNCC President M Krishnasamy, PMK founder S Ramadoss, CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan, Dravidar Kazhagam(DK) President K Veeramani, acclaimed writer Jayakanthan and 'Editor of the Hindi' N Ram were among those who participated in the launch function.
The daily was initially launched as a CPI organ in 1957 and was converted into a weekly in 1990. Today, it was relaunched as a general newspaper with the slogan 'people's daily.' CPI State Secretary D Pandian will be its Editor, while senior journalist A Rayappa will serve as the Editor-in charge.
The newspaper would be people-oriented, highlighting public issues, the cause of the working class and the downtrodden, party sources said.
