CM suspends two jail officers for torturing convict
Patna, Jan 18 (UNI) Shocked at the incident of physical torture of a convict in Purnia jail by jail officials, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered to put accused assistant jailor Mahesh Rajak and warder Md Afzal under suspension.
Mr Kumar told newspersons here that he had taken the incident seriously and ordered a high-level probe into it.
He said the chief secretary had been asked to present the report and the accused officers put under suspension.
Mr Kumar said such heinous crime by the officials would not be tolerated and the government would take action against the guilty.
Arun Kumar Das, a convict undergoing eight-year jail term in Purnia, had shown multiple cigarette burns on his body and the injuries on his private parts in the court recently after which the additional district sessions judge of Purnia Abdur Rehman recorded his statement.
Following a complaint filed by the victim's father the judge constituted a medical team to give a report on the injuries suffered by the inmate. He also ordered hospitalisation of Arun, with adequate security.
As per earlier reports Parmeshwar Lal Das, the convicts father, was not allowed to meet him from past one year following which he complained in the court. He also stated about the torture by jail officers on January 7.
Parmeshwar said his son was tortured after he failed to pay the bribe demanded by the jail employees for not transferring him to Bhagalpur jail.
