BMC aspirants move HC
Mumbai, Jan 18 (UNI) Three Nationalist Congress Party candidates for the February one Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, who have been disallowed to contest as party candidates on technical grounds, have moved the high court for redressal.
Ritesh Shetty, Harish Shetty and Shaila Pujari had submitted their nomination forms on January 15, the last date for filing the same.
After scrutiny, on January 16, the election office declared them ineligible as party-contestants since one of the mandatory annexures had been left blank by them. However, they were allowed to contest as independent candidates.
Adv Nilesh Pawaskar, representing the three, has contended that since the three have submitted additional affidavits that make their party affiliations clear, their disqualification to contest as party candidates is unjust.
The candidates, if they contest as independents, will be deprived of their party support and the party itself will lose representation in these wards from where they are contesting, he contended.
