BJP sees electoral stunt behind Congress' withdrawal in UP

New Delhi, Jan 18 (UNI) The BJP today described the Congress party's withdrawal of support to the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh on the eve of state assembly polls as a ''cheap political stunt and a drama''.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the withdrawal of support by the Congress and Rashtriya Lok Dal at this point of time was only ''notional and meaningless'' unless the state was brought under the President's rule as no fair election was possible as long was SP was in power in the state.

He said the tacit understanding between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party was too well known and they derived and extended support to each other for sustaining themselves in power be it in Uttar Pradesh or in Delhi, he said.

Now, on the eve of elections, the Congress party's withdrawal would have no conviction among the people who would treat it as a Congress gimmick only, he said.
