Aircel launches WiMAX in Bangalore

Bangalore, Jan 18 (UNI) Aircel Business Solutions (ABS) has launched wireless internet services in the city through Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, popularly known as WiMAX technology, which enables 'last mile' connectivity using 'near line of site' wireless equipment.

Aircel Chief Executive Officer Jagdish Kini told reporters here today that ABS planned to equip 26 more cities with WiMAX in the near future.

The company was in the first stage of implementing WiMAX network in prominent locations here such as Electronic City, Airport road, St John's road, Jayanagar, Rajajinagar and Koramangala and could provide pan-city coverage shortly, he said.

ABS was also identifying and deploying Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the city with indoor and outdoor points background with WiMAX, he said, adding that internet services at these hotposts would be enabled through pre-paid cards integrated with payment gateways for online registration and subesequently activated using the Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting mechanism.

The company had launched WiMAX in Chennai in October to become the first company in the country to achieve the feat.
