18 schools remain closed, teachers' altercation in Barrackpore
Barrackpore, Jan 18(UNI) Regular classes of at least 18 Secondary and Higher Secondary schools at New Barrackpore and its adjoining areas were jeopardised following a confrontation between an assistant teacher and a retired teacher in-charge of Kodalia High School here.
Following the incident, annoyed teachers of All Bengal Teachers Association (ABTA) stood away from the classes virtually leaving 18 schools of the area closed today.
It was alleged that recently the Kodalia High School teacher in-charge Pijush Kanti Roy Chowdhury, who was handling the accumulated funds of the Golden Jubilee celebration of the school, had assaulted assistant teacher Samir Mondal.
Mr Mondol had demanded inspection of accounts related to the fund worth about Rs 5 lakh which resulted in an altercation between the duo.
Mr Mondal and his ABTA associates latter registered an FIR with New Barrackpore Police Investigation Centre and resorted to agitation in collaboration with local DYFI and SFI.
