Two militants killed in south Kashmir gun-battle

Srinagar, Jan 17 (UNI) Two militants were reportedly killed by security forces during a fierce gun-battle in Kulgam area of south Kashmir today, sources said.

They said personnel of the Army, police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), on specific information, launched a joint operation at Ahgam in Kulgam area of Anantnag district this evening.

The police said as the security forces were searching the area, militants fired upon them with automatic weapons which was retaliated, triggering a fierce gun-battle.

The sources said militants took refuge in the house of one Ghulam Ahmed Dar and started firing on the security personnel from there.

They said security forces later destroyed the house by firing heavy mortar shells on it.

The sources said the bodies of two militants were recovered from the debris of the house. Some arms and ammunition was also seized from the encounter site.

However, a defence spokesman was yet to confirm the killing of militants in the gun-battle.
