Temperatures in HP continue to dip

Shimla, Jan 17 (UNI) People in Himachal Pradesh continue to shiver under intense cold wave with minimum temperatures in several areas of the state remaining below freezing point.

Kalpa in Kinnuar district of the state was one of the coldest places in the state with night temperature plummeting to minus seven degree as against minus 6.1 degree Celsius recorded yesterday.

The residents in the mid and lower hills continue to groan under an intense cold wave, which was causing extensive damage to crops and fruits in several lower districts of the state.

The met office said thick snow clouds were hovering over Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Chamba and Kullu districts, where night temperatures in the higher altitude areas were being recorded between minus 15 and minus 25.

It said rain and snow was expected in the higher altitude areas of the tribal districts and adjoining lower areas during the next 24 hrs.

Bhuntar in Kullu district and Sundernagar in Mandi district continue to reel under intense coldwave with night temperatures of point one and point two degrees, it said.

The met office said the minimum temperature at Shimla dropped marginally to 2.2 degrees from yesterday's 2.7 degree Celsius, the met office said.

Strong icy winds were blowing across the state capital, which was under a thin layer of clouds since morning, forcing people to remain indoors.
