Tara Devi Goenka cremated

Hisar, Jan 17 (UNI) The body of Tara Devi Goenka, mother of Zee Group Chairman Subhash Chandra, was consigned to flames at Agroha village in this district of Haryana this evening.

The pyre was lit by her eldest son Mr Chandra followed by his younger brothers -- Mr Luxmi Goel, Mr Jawahar Goel and Mr Ashok Goel.

Wreathes were placed on her body by Union Minister Prem Chand Gupta, Mr Ramesh Agarwal, Chairman of Bhaskar Group of newspapers, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Agarwal on behalf of the Haryana Government before the pyre was lit.

A large number of people, including the office-bearers of All India Aggarwal Sabha, attended the cremation.

The cremation took place on the land measuring six acres, purchased by the family. A memorial to Mrs Goenka will be raised at the site, family sources said.

The land is situated adjacent to Agroha Dham, a religious place of the Aggarwal community, located on the Sirsa-Delhi road.

Earlier in the morning, Mrs Goenka's body was broght here from Mumbai where she had been undergoing treatment for her illness.
