Substantial growth opportunities for fashion industry: Mohapatra

Mumbai, Jan 17 (UNI) The opening up of the global economy and dismantling of the quota regime has provided substantial growth opportunities to the apparel and fashion industry, according to Mr S B Mohapatra, Chairman, Banyan Tree Holding Pvt Ltd.

Addressing a press meet after the inauguration of India's first ever international workshop on 'Italian Fashion&Design' in the presence of eminent Italian fashion experts here, Mohapatra stated that the industry needed to upgrade its production facilities as per global quality standard and keep itself in touch with the latest international trend in fashion and design.

India could become future textile production hub for Italy provided the textile sector in India could adopt itself to the Italian operational model of design for manufacturing. This would be very much supported by the opening of Idea factory in Mumbai, he added.

For the first time, a high-level delegation led by Dr Roberto Formigoni, Chief Minister of state of Lombardy, Italy, has arrived here for the workshop. The present workshop has been divided into two events. Similar international workshop on Italian Fashion and Design will be held in Coimbatore on January 19, 2007.
