Subhash Nemwang appointed speaker of the Interim Parliament

Kathmandu, January 17 (UNI) Speaker of Nepal's dissolved parliament Subhash Nemwang has been appointed the new speaker of the country's interim parliament today.

Maoists were claiming the post of the Speaker after the new parliament was constituted on Monday.

Later, the senior leaders of the eight party alliance decided to give a new term to both the speaker and the deputy speaker of the old parliament in the newly constituted parliament of the Himalayan nation.

The 330 member Nepali parliamnet consists of 85 MPs from the Nepali Congress, 83 MPs each from Maoists, CPN, UML and others belong to the small parties.

The new parliament also adopted the interim constitution which suspends the role of the king till the election of the constituent assembly.

Mentoinably, this is the first contitution of Nepal that has abolished the provision of monarchy after King Gyanendra snatched power from the elected government in 2004 and ruled the nation as a dictator.
