SC asks government to give details on dues recovered
New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the Union government to file a status report giving details of the steps taken by it to recover about Rs 50 crore, outstanding as penal rent against unauthorised occupants of government bungalows and quarters.
A bench comprising Justices B N Agrawal and P P Naolekar issued the directions when amicus Ranjeet Kumar pointed out that over Rs 50 crore were to be recovered in the form of market rent from unauthorised occupants and the government was not doing anything to recover the dues as the defaulters include former ministers, MPs, MLAs and top bureaucrats.
Today's directions came on a PIL filed by S D Bandi.
