RSP produces special steel for rocket

Bhubaneswar, Jan 17 (UNI) The Rourkela Steel Plant(RSP) has produced a special quality steel with its plates to be used in indigenously built rocket.

Plant sources said the RSP plates used in the four stages of the rocket were rolled and processed in the Steel Plant's Plate Mill and were supplied to Misra Dhatu Nigam Limited(MIDHANI) Hyderabad.

After fabrication, assembly and further ageing treatment at MIDHANI these Plates were dispatched to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.

The plates considered to be the strongest and toughest steel with a tensile strength beyond 200 kg per sq mm is being used in all the stages of launching rockets namely gas, liquid and solid propellant.

Plates used in the launching of rockets need to be very tough and resilient since huge amount of stresses developed during the launching process.

RSP sources claimed that the it was the only Plant in Asia to process such Plates.Every year RSP has been dispatching around 50 to 60 plates to MIDHANI.

During the current year till date, the RSP had already dispatched 64 plates MIDHANI.
