Proposal for new trains submitted to Rly Board

Jabalpur, Jan 17: A proposal has been sent to the Railway Board for a Diesel Mechanical Unit train connecting Katni to the Jabalpur-Narsinghpur route and an Intercity Express between Rewa and this cantonment town, West-Central Zone General Manager Maheep Kapoor said here.

''Other proposals envisage extension of the Jabalpur-Nagpur Express to Bangalore and the Rewa-Bilaspur Passenger to Raipur,'' he told a meeting of regional MPs yesterday.

In the eight months of this fiscal, the cargo handled by Railways shot up by 11 per cent compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. The percentage of passengers increased by 12 per cent.

Parliamentarian Rakesh Singh proposed that the Mahakaushal Express be extended to Amritsar.
