KAAC members swear in

Diphu, Jan 17: All the 25 elected members of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council(KAAC) took oath of office and secrecy at a simple but impressive function here today. District Deputy Commissioner Dr M Mathur has administered oath to the members.

Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, his cabinet colleague Hemanta Biswa Sarma and other high officials of the District, were present on the occasion.

The election of the Chairman and the Chief Executive member would be held tomorrow.

Chief Minister has released a Vision Document with 50 years projection after the oath taking ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Gogoi said the government has accorded priority for the development of two Hilly District--Karbi Anglong and North Cachar--and sought cooperation from all sections of the people for this purpose.

''Development of the Karbi Anglong could be achieved with the active cooperation and united efforts of all sections of the people,'' he said.

He said the district is endowed with vast natural resources like Agriculture, horticulture, fisheries,, diary and hydro electricity.

He announced that long-awaited Karbi Longpi hydro-electrical project would be inaugurated by March.
