DC seeks report on bogus votes in Kapurthala

Kapurthala, Jan 17 (UNI) Election authorities here today sought a report from the Kapurthala assembly Returning officer over the alleged 600 bogus votes made under the influence of Jalandhar Congress MP Rana Gurjit Singh in polling station number 48, 49 and 50.

Deputy Commissioner cum District Returning officer Raminder Singh has acted on a complaint by SAD candidate Raghbir Singh who has alleged that block-level officers were making 600 bogus votes of the mill workers of Rana Gurjit Singh and Photo Identity cards were being issued to them at Mandi Janj Ghar.

District Election officer has 11 complaints, most of them against Rana Gurjit Singh, for putting pressure on the district administration in the making of bogus votes to favour his sister-in- law Sukhwinder Kaur Rana who is likely to contest on a Congress ticket from Kapurthala assembly seat.

Meanwhile, the DC also disposed of a complaint of Rana Gurjit Singh and District Congress Committee President Sukhpal Singh Khaira against SAD President Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal for an advertisement published in a Punjabi daily in which both the leaders were highlighted as relatives of Moninder Singh Pandher, the main accused in serial killings of Noida.

The DC said the complaint did not come under his purview and should be made to the Chief Election Commissioner.
