CRPF jawan wounded, Uri project official dies in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 17 (UNI) A CRPF personnel sustained wounds in an accidental fire while a person was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Uri hydel project overnight, police said today.

They said constable Jogesh Yadav of the CRPF's 137 battalion was wounded due to an accidental fire from his weapon while performing duty at the main gate of the Nigeen club near the historic Hazratbal shrine on the city outskirts last evening.

He was hospitalised and police have launched investigations into the matter.

Police said Javed Iqbal Rather, a resident of Gundoo in Doda district, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Uri.

Rather, a workman in the Uri hydel project, was believed to have died while operating a water pump at the main access tunnel.

Police have launched investigations and initiated proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC in the matter.

Meanwhile, a Tata Sumo was hit by a vehicle near Pampore Joinery Mills on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway IA.

The driver and three passengers of the Tata Sumo, on its way from Jammu to Srinagar, were critically wounded in the accident.

They were rushed to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura near here for treatment.
