New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) Uttarakhand Congress president Harish Rawat today claimed that the party would get a clear majority to form a Government after the State Assembly elections to be held next month.

As of today, out of the 70 Assembly seats, the Congress was either ahead of the other parties or was equally placed with them, with the party placed in the second position in 16 seats, he told UNI here.

The main Opposition party BJP was forging ahead in the first position in only seven or eight seats. This had raised the hopes that the BJP would easily cross the figure of 40 seats while the Congress would end up with a figure of 45 seats.

He said the first list of Congress candidates would be released on January 22 after a meeting of the Central Election Committee.

About Chief Minister N.D.Tiwari seeking re-election, he said this would be decided by the party High Command. About his own self, he said whatever the party High Command would decide he would abide by it.

About his becoming the next Chief Minister, Mr Rawat said this depended on the party High Command and destiny.
