Cold weather conditions prevail in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 16 (UNI) Cold weather conditions continued to prevail in Kashmir today with the minimum temperature being recorded at minus 4.0 degree Celsius.

The Valley recorded the coldest night of the season so far on Sunday when the minimum temperature plummeted to minus 6.1 degree Celsius due to which a major portion of Dal Lake was frozen.

Bone chilling cold with a very blustery wind has made the weather all the much colder in entire Kashmir over the past few days.

People in Kashmir brave the piercing cold with traditional kangris (fire-pots) and electronic room heaters besides 'pheron (long woollen coats)' and other warmers.

As the temperature has gone below the freezing point, water pipes in several areas in the Valley were jammed.

Weather office here said the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 4.0 degree Celsius while the maximum stood at 8.9 degree Celsius.

In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.7 degree Celsius while the maximum was at 20.0 degree Celsius.

The Met office predicted rains and snowfall in upper reaches.
