BSF and BDS entangled in cross fire along border

Basirhat, Jan 17: The Border Security Force and their counterpart BDR of Bangladesh were entangled in the cross firing last evening creating panic in the bordering Indian village of Nabadkati in North 24 Parganas, police said.

The local police station in charge along with a force rushed to the spot. According to sources, border guards of both the countries spent at least 100 rounds during the cross firing for about two hours. No casualty was reported so far, the police said.

The cross fire between the BSF of the Amudia camp and BDR was, however, began when when a local resident, said to be a brother of Nabadkati Gram Panchayat member Balaram Mandal (45) was shot dead in a BSF firing following an altercation between the BSF and a group local people allegedly involved in smuggling cattle.

The Police said the cross firing was stopped by now.
