Bomb blast in railway township
Silchar, Jan 17 (UNI) Two powerful bombs went off this morning on the ground floor of the Asom Cooperative Apex Bank building in Badarpur town in Asom's Karimganj district.
However, there was no report of any casualty or injury as the bombs exploded at 0715 hours, when there was no one near the area and all the shops and other establishments, including the bank, were closed.
Police said the two bombs were kept inside a box, which was kept near a shop on the ground floor of a two-storied building.
Police said following the blast glass splinters had spread throughout the nearby NH 44. The shop was also partially damaged.
A contingent of police and para miliraty forces from Karimganj rushed to the place and started investigation into the incident.
Karimganj Superintendent of Police P C Saloi said though the bombs seemed to be crude, however, the remains of the devices are being sent to laboratory for detailed investigation.
Following the incident security has been tightened in and around the railway township.
