Army sets up new brigade in Dibrugarh
Guwahati, Jan 17 (UNI) A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's announcement it, the Army today moved in a new brigade to Dibrugarh from Arunachal Pradesh to bolster the anti-ULFA operation.
According to Army sources, the new brigade will be headed by Brigadier I P S Gill.
The brigade headquarters will be at Dibrugarh and it will be responsible for withdrawing the militants from Dibrugarh district.
The 311 Mountain Division was earlier posted at Rupa in Bomdilla district from where it was moved to Upper Asom following the violence. Each brigade has roughly 3000 personnel.
Meanwhile, sources confirmed that Laipuli-based brigade will concentrate on Tinsukia district. Both brigade were being controlled from the Divisional headquarters at Dinjan and headed by Lt Gen N C Marwah.
The operation had already shown results as five ULFA activists were arrested and two killed in separate incidents of Upper Asom, while the affected Hindi-speaking are beguning to return from the refugee camps.
