300 fall ill at marriage function in Sabarkantha

Ahmedabad, Jan 17 (UNI) As many as 300 people, including women and children, were taken ill after partaking of lunch at a wedding function in Sonasan Village, about 10 Km from Prantij, in Sabarkantha District today.

According to a medical team headed by Dr Ashish Nayak, camping in the village, as many as 700 to 800 people had gathered at a wedding ceremony around noon at the residence of Jagadishbhai Kachrabhai Patel.

Soon after the lunch, many started vomiting and had diarrhoea.

About 45 persons, including children and women, were brought to Prantij, Dr C R Madi, a medical officer at the health centre, said.

''All were out of danger '', he added.

District health officer Dr S S Chauhan of Himatnagar civil hospital, who was the first to rush with a 12-doctor team along with 27 paramedical staff to Sonasan village, said consumption of fruit salad could have led to vomitting and diarrhoea. around 125 people were treated by the team of doctors.

Several of the affected were treated in other health centres.

However, all of them were out of danger, health authorities said.
