20 Nepali girls rescued from circus in UP

Lucknow, Jan 17 (UNI) An FIR has been lodged at Wazirganj Kotwali in connection with twenty Nepali girls were rescued from a circus in Kushinagar district of the state.

Subsequent action would be taken after the medical examination of these girls.

Of the 20 girls, all in the age group of 10-15 yrs, rescued by a Nepali NGO Child Welfare Foundation (CWF) last week, eight have been sent back home, while 12 were brought here.

A case was registered late last night here in Wazirganj Kotwali on behalf of CWF and Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) -- another social organisation.

According to BBA activist Dr Rama Kant Rai, the medical of seven girls had been done, while examination of remaining five girls would be held tomorrow at Balrampur hospital here.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Lucknow Rajiv Krishna told UNI the police would investigate the allegations of sexual exploitation after the medical and subsequent statement of the victims.

''Police would also verify contracts allegedly signed by these girls to ascertain if these bonds contain inhuman clauses liable for punishment.'' It would also be looked into if the investigation could be done here or in Kushinagar, Mr Krishna said.

Meanwhile, Dr Rai indicated moving Allahabad High Court in this regard. He, however, refused to divulge details.
