115 nominations for ZP members rejected in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Jan 17 (UNI) As many as 115 nominations for the post of Zilla Parishad members were rejected by the State Election Commission during scrutiny here today.

SEC sources said altogether 4,385 nominations were filed for the 854 Zilla Parishad members post spread over 30 districts in the state of which 115 were rejected during the scrutiny leaving 4270 candidates for the posts.

The last date for withdrawal of the nominations has been slated for January 19 next. All the nominations for the Zilla Parishad members posts in Balesore, Boud, Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jharsugura, Malkangiri and Subarnapur were found valid.

The maximum numbers of 17 nominations were rejected in Sundargarh district followed by 14 in Koraput, 12 in Puri and eleven in Bhadrak district.

SEC sources said 35,799 nominations for 6234 Sarpanch seats, 29,000 nominations for the samitee members and 80,355 nominations for 87,542 ward members posts had been filed.

The three tier Panchayat elections in the state would be held in five phases from February 13 to February 21.
